Pulse Closure FAQ: 30 October–6 November 2023

Pulse News - 18 October 2023

As we will be closing for a week to fit our new heating system, we've put together answers to some of your most frequently answered questions here.

When will the Pulse be closed?

The Pulse will be closed from Monday 30 October to Monday 6 November, reopening on Tuesday 7 November.

Why is The Pulse being closed?

We are closing to fit a new heating system, replacing our ageing gas boilers with brand new renewable technology.

The new system will use recycled heat from the swimming pool and changing rooms as heating, boosted by additional solar panels. It will save hundreds of tonnes of carbon emissions every year and is a key part of Stroud District Council's pledge to do everything in its power to ensure the district becomes carbon neutral by 2030.

While we are closed, the main transformer will be replaced, and the new heat pumps will be tested before the heating is switched over to the new system and the gas boilers decommissioned.

We'll also be making the most of the closure by re-tiling the gym changing rooms.

Why did you choose this week?

The difficult decision of when best to close a leisure centre that is used and loved by the community has been carefully considered by all involved. Shutting during the half term week means that school swimming lessons, and all the exercise programmes that take place during the term time, will not be disrupted.

Are you running any half-term activities while The Pulse is closed?

We are pleased to say we will have some half-term activities taking place at The Chantry Centre!

We have some fun-fillled Halloween-themed Activity Days on Tuesday 31 October and Wednesday 1 November for children aged 5–11. You can view full details here: https://www.pulsedursley.co.uk/events/activity-days/

We're also running a Halloween Dance Workshop for children aged 4–9 on Monday 30 October. You can view full details here: https://www.pulsedursley.co.uk/events/halloween-dance-workshop/

I’m a member – will that week of my membership be reimbursed?

Members who pay by Direct Debit will have a reduction in payment for one month (November 2023) and pre-paid members will have a week added to the end of their contract.

My child has swimming lessons with The Pulse – what will happen about that week?

All Direct Debit payments for swimming lessons will be amended in November and all prepaid swim lessons will be frozen during that week.

Can I access the Castle Street car park while The Pulse is closed?

There will be limited access to the Castle Street car park with fewer spaces available than usual as improvements are also being made to the car park. Alternative free-of-charge parking is available at in May Lane, Silver Street and Long Street.
