We’ve come to the last of our recent Trainer Q&A questions – this week, we’re answering Bocksnash’s question (from Instagram):
Mummy tummy struggles – what’s the best gentle exercises to tone post baby belly and love handles?
Side planks are a great way to tone the obliques, but make sure that you engage your core while you do them – pull your tummy button towards your spine. Also try and V-hold – sitting with your knees bent, roll down so that the top of your trousers touch the floor, and focus on engaging your lower core.
For a simple standing exercise that can be done at any time, stand with your weight back through your heels, reach your hand down the side of your leg towards your knee, then repeat on both sides. ... See MoreSee Less

Free health checks and gym inductions will be on offer as The Pulse leisure centre does its bit to support people living with diabetes.
November is diabetes awareness month and staff at the Dursley leisure centre are offering free-of-charge healthy living consultations; body scan assessment looking at fat, lean muscle tissue, bone density and hydration levels; and a free induction to the gym.
“We have displays, leaflets on living with and preventing the onset of Type 2 diabetes, and myth busters about the condition around the centre,” said centre manager Angela Gillingham.
“This is the first of many health initiatives that we will be running over the next 12 months in order to help people understand how to prevent some serious health conditions.”
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is the main source of energy and comes from food. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into cells to be used for energy. Sometimes the body doesn’t make enough—or any—insulin or doesn’t use insulin well. Glucose then stays in the blood and doesn’t reach the body’s cells.
Over time, having too much glucose in the blood can cause health problems. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented, slowed or reversed by following a healthy diet and taking regular exercise.
Diabetes can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, and eye and foot problems. Prediabetes also can cause health problems. The longer someone has diabetes, the more likely they are to develop health problems, so delaying diabetes by even a few years will benefit health. People can help prevent or delay type 2 diabetes by losing a modest amount of weight by following a reduced-calorie eating plan and being physically active most days of the week.
The free health consultations must be booked in advance and will take place on the following dates:
Saturday 10th November, 9am to 2pm
Saturday 17th 9am to 3pm
Sunday 18th 9am to 3pm
Saturday 24th 9am to 2pm.
